Chat rules

Here follow the current channel rules (as of may 2000) as well as the main goals operators should target at...

CP052000r32
General:

  • Art. 1 The channel founder, DocTomoe, is the only legal master of the channel. He's the only one that can decide over the following channel rules. Furthermore, he stands above the following rules and they don't apply to his person. However he should try to respect them in general cases and only apply his immunity when the situation requires it.

  • Art. 2 The following channel politics can't undergo more than 5 revisions per month and not more than 20 revisions a year.
Members of the official staff list have the right to suggest a changement to the channel rules. However in order to be considered, that suggestion has to be made by a majority of the Ops. The channel owner as defined in Art. 1 will always have the last word.

    Kicks:

  • Art. 3a People get kicked from a channel when they start flooding. This may be channel flooding by repeating the same text again and again, but also join/leave flooding, nick change flooding or flooding other people in the room with ctcp/dcc requests or by any other means.
Art. 3b When does an activity start to be flooding? Well, a good rule of thumb would be 3-5 times an action repeated within very short time...

  • Art. 4 People will also get kicked from the channel if they don't behave properly, eg. by insulting other people repeatingly, etc.

  • Art. 5a Advertising is not allowed in #sailors, if anyone starts advertising his own or another channel and or web site or anything alike, be it openly in the channel or by /notice or /msg, he will be kicked.

  • Art. 5b Scripts that automatically post repeated public messages to the channel are prohibited. This includes auto-greets, away reminders (except the trigger based ones), Mp3 scripts and anything similiar.
    - This does not include the official channel bots.

  • Art. 5c Colors, styled text and popups should be used with moderation. Any abuse will not be tolerated.

  • Art. 6 Clones or personal/third party bots are not allowed in the channel without prior permission by DocTomoe. Clones or bots may be kicked and/or banned WITHOUT any warning. We allow a person's clone in the channel for a short period of time in case that person's first connection died for some reason and the network didn't kill the connection yet.
The clones and bots allowed in the channel can be viewed in the staff list.

    Bans:

  • Art. 7 People will get banned if they can't be reasoned to respect the rules by other means. There has to be a warning beforehand, be it in form of textual warnings or repeated kicks.
    - Kicks or bans for fun or for personal reasons are not allowed!
    - People using a hostmask listed on the blacklist can be kicked and/or banned at any time for any reason. The blacklist can be found on bottom of this page.

  • Art. 8 If an Op bans someone, the respective Op can do an unban at any time he chooses. However if you wanna unban a person that has been banned by another operator, you should only do so with the permission of the operator that has casted the ban.
    - However, bans that have been casted in a too general way (like banning *!*@* or banning a whole ISP) may be removed by any operator, except for the blacklisted hostmasks.

    Ops:

  • Art. 9 In order to avoid any abuse of Operator power and in order to create a more friendly climate in the channel, channel operators should only be opped or op themselves when necessary (in situations exposed by the present channel politics). If ChanServ should autoop you, please deop yourself again by typing /chanserv deop #sailors yournick To Op yourself when necessary, you'll have to type /nickserv identify yournickpswd, followed by /chanserv op #sailors yournick The only operators allowed to stay opped all the time are the official channel bots listed on the staff list.
The above article can not be enforced by kicks, bans or deopping by other Operators as shown in the following article. However, if the concerned Operator can not be convinced to respect Art. 9 by any sensible arguments, the rule may be enforced using AkaneKarasuma's +cpdeop command or H_LeadCrow's -cpdeop command and only using these commands.
    - Although this rule can not be enforced by all means, it still remains obligatory and not respecting it may envolve the punishments listed in Art. 10.

  • Art. 10 - Op wars in the channel are not allowed! In other words, Operators don't have the right to kick/ban/deop/deAOP any other LEGAL operators listed in the staff list.
    - An exception to the above rule are the official Channel Bots. They may indeed be disabled by any means in case of an OBVIOUS technical problem in their functioning.
    - In case of a fight between one or more operators, the fight will have to be settled and judged by a third party person which can be either the channel owner or a SOP, but none of the parties involved in the fight. However, it is still possible for the 2 parties to settle their differences on their own if they don't use any of their Operator powers to do so.
    - Any abuse of operator power on non-operator visitors to the channel is considered illegal too and will be taken seriously in case of valid logs proving the action.
    - Operators that have not respected Art. 10 may be punished by a temporary or in heavy cases definate suspension of their Operator status. This punishment may only be casted by the channel owner as defined in Art. 1.

  • Art. 11 Neither the SOPs nor the AOPs are allowed to op other people on the channel. The channel founder is the only person to decide about who will get opped and who won't. However, the legal channel Ops have the right to do suggestions in case they think them justified.
This rule will be enforced by H_LeadCrow. She will only allow valid hostmasks to be opped on the channel. In case you have changed hostmask and keep getting deoped, here's the procedure to follow:
    1) Leave channel
    2) Add new hostmask to LC by typing: /msg H_LeadCrow ident pswd nick where pswd is the password you set with the bot and nick the original nick you had been using when registering with the bot.
    3) Rejoin channel

  • Art. 12 Only the operators that are listed on the site (http://sailorchat.cjb.net) are regular operators and can be fully trusted...

    Goals:

What is the main job of an operator? Well, there are 3 important points.

  • Art. 13 First of all an operator should make sure that the channel runs well and that it is operated according to the above channel politics.

  • Art. 14 The second goal is to increase the number of visitors to the channel by any legal means...

  • Art. 15 All the operators are always supposed to know the latest channel politics listed on this page, even if they haven't been notified of any changes. The fact not to know the latest channel politics may imply the same punishment as in Art. 10, last paragraph.
