Rambles, shambles

Talk to yourself, and you're crazy.
Talk to your computer, and you're one smart cookie.

While chatting with some American friends,
I found that although we speak the same language,
sometimes we use different words.
For example,

I mentioned winning a chook at Bingo... 'What's a chook?'

This is a chook!!

and...thongs?

The Americans call them flipflops??!!??

  ... a friend commented one morning at about 9am that I was up early.... that made me think about something I read about programmers:
The only time a real programmer is up at 6am, is when (s)he's been up all night!
... that led me to this one:
Real programmers don't comment their code. If it was difficult to write, it should be difficult to understand

... and ... speaking of real....
Real women don't have hot flashes... they have power surges!
Maybe I should have told my friend I had had a power surge...?

At 6.45am ... after one of my power surge driven all night sessions at the computer... I noticed it was daylight... and... the galahs flew over, making a lot of noise. (ahelluva racket) I knew that they fly over at sunset... it seems they fly over at sunrise too!

wellwaddayaknow!!

I mentioned this in an email message to Tom, in Ohio. He didn't know what a galah was... Out here in country New South Wales (Australia) it's hard to imagine someone not knowing what a galah is... there's hundreds of 'em...!!!

so... for the next day or so I bombarded him with information... everything he never wanted to know about galahs... !!

galahs
Australian Parrots
Pronounced Gull-ars

Rosakakadu [Galah]
Eolophus roseicapillus [Vieillot]
engl.: Roseate Cockatoo;
franz.: Cacatoès rosalbin;
holl.: Rosé Kaketoe

.

Look what I found while searching for galah...
(this belongs on the hhmmm page, I suppose)
