Anarchism: Sold Out
written for Gothism by Christopher Stevenson

Anarchism is a movement older than any subculture. The current idea of it can best be traced back to a school of thought prominent in  the late 1700's/early 1800's.
Almost simultaneously, a movement called the "Digger Movement" and Jeane Pierre Proudhon's "What is Property?" was throwing shockwaves throughout and imperialist based world society.  What would spring from these roots would be a women's rights movement, Karl Marx, and the Spanish Civil War. In the United States, anarchism had a stronger following most of the rest of the world. The rest of the world had more interest in a stricter socialism/communism. Events include the Sacco-Vanzetti trial and the Haymarket Massacre. More interest than the US was in Spain.

After a number of Red Scares in the 30's and 40's, anarchism started to dull. Then springing back in to style with the Hippie Counterculture movement, with followers: as the New Left, Noam Chomsky, and The White Panther Party (white supporters of the Black Panther Party).

After the movement sold out, anarchism didn't take on a strong role again until 1977. This was the year punk essential hit its peak. The movement of punk was evolving but its progeny (the Sex Pistols, The Clash, and Siouxsie and the Banshees) kept the aura alive. Even into the post-punk (aka Gothic) movements.  There is a strong feeling there, but what some consider anarchism is nothing more than hate, fascism, and oppression.  This is owed greatly to the  skin Oi and skin  punk/hardcore movement. ANARCHISM IS NOT VIOLENCE.

take the  following equation:

authority - all authority = no authority.

Violence is a form of authority. However, the theory of anarchism is: if we completely destroy all forms of authority then everyone would have to act on common sense.

It is common sense not to oppress; use excessive force. It is usually deemed necessary when people won't listen. Or to overthrow persons in power.  The anarchist support of various acts of terrorism is as so: It is often arguable and true that a terrorist threat can and has reduced the amount of violence in the world, therefore a pacifist can support that terroristic threat.

In turn, the idea is also it may do more harm than good. The central theme to anarchism is that we can eliminate those forces that cause the oppressive natures, giving us more time to do other things, like dress up like the dead, or the Dead, or paint pretty pictures of precious
fairies and become candy perfect housewives that NEED HUGE STRAP-ONS TO BEAT THE HELL OUT OF STUPID PEOPLE. Well there would be need for strap
on's in anarchy. Who is going to oppress you if all authority doesn't exist? The most common and approved form of spreading anarchism is education. What if we all did drop our prejudice and worked together to support a utopic society(ies)?? Then you could get free eyeliner and wear as much as you wanted.
