About Our Country |
There it is: Trinidad and
Tobago, the twin island republic on which we live. Situated at
the north-west tip of South America, Trinidad and Tobago became
"twin islands" in the late 19th century, and
independent of England in 1962. The capital of Trinidad is
Port-of-Spain (it used to be St. Joseph - not shown), and
Tobago's capital is Scarborough.
Notice that Trinidad has town names of varying language origins...Spanish, French, Indian, which highlight the reason that Trinidad and Tobago was given the nickname the "Rainbow Country", because the territory houses many different ethnic cultures in harmony. Visitors to the island can expect many exotic, tropical sights, sounds, flora and fauna, with many facilities showcasing this seemingly endless variety. The major attraction to many visitors to this nation is annual Carnival, dubbed "the greatest show on Earth". Detailed information on Trinidad & Tobago is beyond the scope of this site. However, if you would like more information, you can visit the Visit TNT site or the Miss Universe Trinidad & Tobago site. |
