August 19, 2000 -  Time has come (DFFBS 1.95 release)

    I've benn all words and no release lately, but here it is!

    DFFBS v1.95 tech demo

    Been working hard the last 2 nights getting this together.  And i may have made some hasty mistakes as well, so if you get any errors or probs, let me know via e-mail, since i'll be away for a few days until i get settled in at collage.  I may be around as soon as Monday.  And may be able to update the tech demo slightly.  but don't count on it.  The shop system turned out great!  Besides the conversion screwed up the 3d rendered shop building slightly, it still looks decent.  The shop script fully supports the items2.dat format, and you can buy by the category of item.  I've also made a neat little GetQuantity function to get the "how many do you want to buy" input.  Works pretty sweet.

    DFFBS is also open source, and the demo contains a whoping 6200 lines of .vc code.  Good luck ripping anyting from it though, but if you can, feel free to use it, with creds.  In case your wondering, the .inc files are no different from the .vc counterparts.

    The offer for help (in the previous update) still stands.  Mail me if you think you can, and want to, help out while i'm gone.

    I had much bigger intentions for this, but this is all I could get to.  But the foundation is now laid for a great active time battle system next summer.  Hopefully, with an official version of verge 2000.

August 15, 2000 -  Another minor update

    Time is closing in fast, too fast.  Not much in this update, just a file and some news.  First, I've added a short doc for party2.dat in the docs section.  Now for the news.  I've fixed up the nav-bar for people running in low res (not all the sections links would appear and for some weird reason the vertical scrollbar doesn't appear sometimes when the site is nested).  And far as engine work goes, I've officially decided to add a shop system before I go.  And spent the last 3 days or so modeling a shop building in Moray, its turning out great, but is eating my time away.  This will     give me something to show the shop system off with :)  I'll have to take some time to pack everything up for the release too, so that may kill more of my time.  Another update soon!

    Ah, just noticed something, this site is now a whole year old.  It doesn't seem that long...

    One last thing.  I think I will put up a "help" section.  And open DFFBS2 for public contribution.  Sorta like Final Fantasy Reprise and Verge Shrine.  I will be great if I could have ANYONE do some work while I'm gone.  Work as in everything except coding.  That way, people can submit personal chr's and fight in the battle arena (the v2 incarnation of the v1.5 demo when its done!)  I'm in the most need of chrs and (non-ripped) monster gfx.  I will except almost any artwork, despite its quality, in desperation.

 

August 11, 2000 -  Wee, another update

    Created a new "Docs" section for the site, and uploaded the first online doc.  It covers my DFFBS2 inventory definition file items2.dat.  Also got in a little bit of engine work, but not enough to describe here.  More is coming soon!
