Has anyone wondered how Huey, Dewey and Louie came to be called 'Duck'? Of course, their mother was born Della Duck (Donald's twin sister) but she would have taken the surname of the man she married, ie H, D & L's actual father. Since all our Ducks have traditional family values, we should assume that Della Duck married another person with the same surname, but without any consanguinity problems.
The most senior AMERICAN member of the 'Duck' family that we know is Dabney Duck, Grandma Elvira's late husband and Quackmore's father. But there must have been other relatives of the Duck family arriving from Europe at the time and Della could have met and married one of them, thereby getting a married name that was the same as her maiden name.

Hey!

Maybe 'Duck' is just an very often used name in Duckburg. Just like the names 'Smith', 'Jones' are in America or 'jansen' en 'de vries' in Holland.
Remember that for example Darkwing DUCK is not a relative of the Ducks we know.

Well, don't tell anyone, but Darkwing Duck isn't his real name. It's Drake Mallard. But ssh! It's his secret identity! ;)

And it's not THAT uncommon to marry someone with the same last name and still be no relation. It goes get absurd, however, when you get modern and hyphenate it. My father once did business with a woman who was married and went by "Mrs. Hansen-Hansen." 0_o
