noisy neighbors

Why? Why me?

My apartment looks out onto another unit's patio, since I'm at the end of one of the rows. This corner unit was previous occupied by some extremely annoying people who threw loud parties at the slightest provocation. ("It's Friday! Let's invite half the city over and drink heavily!") I'd called the police on them a few times, most notably when two party-goers decided to have a brawl right next to Dexter.

But finally, finally, about two months ago, they moved out. I sensed that there was something Not Right about the situation, since the woman moved her stuff out when the guy wasn't there, and had several burly men with her. But they were gone, and good riddance.

Last week I noticed curtains in the windows of that unit again, and crossed my fingers. Getting new neighbors is always a crapshoot; you never know what you've got until they've been there for a while.

It's 10:30pm on a Thursday night. There are twelve people on the patio next door. They have a keg. It's a noisy party.

Yay.

I honestly wouldn't mind so much if my door wasn't right across from their patio, and they can see right into my living room. This means that every time I want to go upstairs for something, my ass ends up right at eye-level for them. Even if they aren't watching, I can feel eyeballs prickling me from across the sidewalk. As I walk up the stairs, I am totally self-conscious, especially if I'm wearing my giant lion slippers or a robe.

I could shut my door, yes. But it's sooooooo hot in here anyway. Besides... I live here, too.

I suppose I could just call the police again. sigh

Or I could sit here and think evil thoughts at them. For example, I don't suppose any of them would be terribly cool if a skunk walked by. Shrieking and cowering would probably occur. Or maybe the security guy will tell them to knock the noise off.

I'd do it myself, but I'm too much of a coward. grin So I'll end up sitting here and holding my pee to keep from having to walk upstairs.
