hot vs cold

Today's weather was hot and sticky.

Tomorrow's forecast is hot with a 90% chance of sticky. Wednesday should be hot, with a chance of scattered muggy. And according to the long-range forecast, Thursday, Friday and Saturday are going to be hot, muggy and sticky.

The dog days are here.

It cools off a lot in the evenings, but it's still muggy. Last year, about this time, Dave flew down. It was so hot, we ended up getting a hotel room his last night here so that we'd have air conditioning. (And a real bed, too...) It's not quite as hot this year as it was last year, but it's still hot.

I prefer colder weather. A good thing, I suppose, considering where I'm moving. Hot weather gives me headaches. Hot weather makes me feel dirty and sticky all the time. Hot weather encourages me to do nothing but sleep.

When it's cold, you can always put on another sweater. But there comes a point when it's too hot for clothing, and you want to take it all off. The problem is that you can only take off so many clothes before you're naked and being arrested.

Cold weather is perfect for cozying up inside with a good book and a hot chocolate. When it's hot out, the best you can do is sit outside with a book, drinking some pop or iced tea or lemonade... But then the glass starts sweating and dripping on your book, and before too long your cold lemonade is lukewarm and yucky.

Hot weather makes even outdoors things unbearable. Taking a hike in the woods becomes an ordeal, with sweat stains on your shirt and bug spray making your arms taste bad and inhaling mosquitoes as you breathe. Cold weather kills the bugs, and the physical activity warms you right up until you're comfortable.

Cold kills car batteries, but hot weather makes cars overheat. You don't ever want to cook when it's hot out, but cold weather makes me want to make cookies. Hot weather makes me look pale and ill (compared to the tan people around me), but cold weather gives my cheeks a rosy, healthy glow.

I'm most comfortable when it's 65 degrees with low humidity, but if I had to choose, I'd choose cold.

The question is... Am I ready for "Winterpeg?"
