My day was utterly consumed by work. I've grown used to going to sleep around 3am, and getting up around 11am or so. Today, however, I had to be at work by 9:15, which meant I had to get up at about 8am to get showered and ready. But my body rebelled last night when I tried to go to bed at a "reasonable" hour, so I didn't actually fall asleep until about 3am anyway. Waking up was a horrible affair, and I was dragging ass all day because of that. I was doing a chartered trip in the morning, picking up a group of senior citizens from a church and taking them on a tour of a new nursing home that was recently built. The church I was picking up from was on the other side of the county, so it took me about half an hour to get up to that area. When I was about five minutes away from the church, base called me and told me that the trip had been canceled. "You can come back to base," they said - afraid that I would be mad. I was anything but; it meant that I could go back home and sleep. Of course, they gave me a few extra pickups to do on my way back into base, so I didn't actually clock out until about an hour and a half later. I went home with every intention of watching TV and relaxing. I lay back on the couch and closed my eyes "just for a minute." When I opened them next, it was three hours later and time to go to work. So I went. I felt a bit better, if groggy. We're doing a parking lot shuttle for the amusement part this weekend, so I went to stash a bus in their parking lot in case something we have breaks down. Getting the buses and schedules ready for the weekend was a nightmare I wasn't mentally capable of handing, but I muddled through it somehow. When I left for "lunch" (at about 7pm), it was thundering a bit. By the time I got to my apartment, it was hailing and pouring. The short walk from my car to the door left me drenched. The walk back to my car wasn't much better, and by the time I got to the grocery store to get something to eat I was shivering. (By this time, I was so wet I didn't even bother running to the door of the store.) The cashier was totally sympathetic, even offering to get me a towel. I declined. Back at work, I was told that the maintenance bay had flooded. After trudging around in four inches of water, I was wet, cold, and tired. I feel like I've gone swimming. Whenever I go swimming I feel drained for the rest of the day, and that's how I feel now. In a few minutes I'm leaving to pick up the Pol- ... international itinerant seasonal workers. I'm still damp. I'm still cold. I'm still very tired. All I want to do is go home and sleep. Sleep... Aah, what a magical word. Non Sequitor LilSis got me the coolest thing for my birthday (a few days late, but who's counting?) It's the manga of The Empire Strikes Back. It's bizarre. It's an American movie translated into a Japanese manga translated into English. It's awesome.
