hippo birdy two me

I'm all old and stuff now. Twenty-six years.

Today I crawled out of bed at about 9:30am after having a rather disturbing dream. It's a dream that I've had before, and it always sticks with me through the day. I watched a few cartoons, mulling over the images that still danced around my head, and then went back to bed.

I woke up again at about 1pm.

That dream triggers some memory for me. I think I've had the dream before, but maybe it was a movie that I'd seen. It's either a science-fiction or steampunk setting, either on another planet or set in the far future. The world is barren, and everyone lives in large turreted domes, or in buildings that look like cake stands. The landscape is totally flat, and is plagued with tornados. The storms are just a part of everyday life, and you can always look outside to see several tornados twisting along the horizon.

I would really like to write a story in this setting, but I don't know if it was a movie I saw or not. Was it? Help me out, here.

I settled in at the computer (after giving myself a few jolts of caffeine to wake me up) and played Rollercoaster Tycoon for the next two hours. My father called, inviting me over for dinner. So, after finishing up the scenario I was working on, I went.

We had ravioli and meatballs and cake and ice cream.

My mother and sisters had just returned from a church retreat. (Our church is a little different, so it's not really what you're thinking...) My mom attended a weeklong workshop on science-fiction (in movies, books and the Real World, and how it relates to Unitarian Universalism).

On the last day, they discussed conventions. My mom mentioned that Dave is going to be Guest of Honor at a small convention in September. (Erm, I haven't mentioned that, have I? Well, he is. I think it's great, but he's totally modest/embarrassed by the whole thing. He's going to Mephit Furmeet, check it out.).

Anyway, this workshop was filled with some rather hard-core science-fiction fans. While furry has some ties to science-fiction (ie, a lot of furry fans are sci-fi fans as well), not many people who are solely sci-fi oriented have even heard of furry.

Now check this out. When my mom mentioned that Dave writes under the name "Plonq," several people said that they'd heard of him, and had read his stories! And liked them!

If that doesn't prove to him that he's a great writer, nothing will.

Hey, go read his stuff and tell him that he's good, why doncha!

Changes Afoot

I'll bet you're sick of those fucking banner ads.

I'll bet that I'm even more sick of them than you are!

The Java that they use to insert the ads fucks up my page all the time. You've probably noticed some funky design flaws, especially along the bottom of the page. Those aren't me! It's screwed up when the server fetches the page.

One banner ad was fine. Two? Over the line. Two ads that screw up and give me java errors constantly? Totally unacceptable.

Every year I get myself something for my birthday, and this year is no different. I bought myself a domain name.

In the next week or so, I'll find a host (Any ideas?) and get my journal moved over. I want to do some serious kickass design for it, so that needs to be done first. Depending on how much room I get, I might host my stories that are on FurNation there, too. We'll see.

I'll keep you posted!
