What? What? When did this happen? Where did spring go? Don't tell me I missed it already. Hmph. It was stiflingly hot today, a prelude to what we have to look forward to. The sun was huge and red when it set, and the evening breeze was cool and fresh. But still... I'm not ready for it to be spring yet. I'm not ready to let spring slip through my fingers. This will be my last one here, and I intended to make the most of it... But somehow it's getting away from me. Looks like I'm going to be busy tomorrow. The Sky Isn't Falling! Well, apparently the Earth suffered no ill effects from the planetary alignment. Many years ago, PsychoRoommate gave me one of her books to read. It "explained" why May 5, 2000 was going to be the End Of The Earth As We Know It. If I remember correctly, the combined gravimetric pull would turn the Earth on its side, so that the polar cap pointed directly at the sun. Earthquakes, flood and famine would follow. There were so many things wrong with that I didn't know where to start. I tried explaining to my friend that the combined pull of the planets would be so miniscule it wouldn't even be noticed, let alone be enough to topple the planet over. "You always say you have to remain open minded," she countered. "You won't even consider this idea because your paradigm doesn't have room for it." Yes, that's right. She said I had a paradigm. (Could a doctor remove that if needed?) Of course, that was right about the time I think she stopped taking her medication, so perhaps her mind was out of whack. Actually, she was always out of whack...
