Today we celebrated my mother's birthday, and took her to dinner. The choice of restuarant we went to was rather contrived, however, because Min had to be at work by 4pm. So we went to the restaurant where she works. I ate too much. Waaaaay too much. Turn on Country! After dinner, I went to to work. I'd agreed to work the night shift tonight, since I kind of need the money. Weekend shifts are ridiculously easy, so it's no hardship. I picked up one of the MRDD guys who is in community employment at a restaurant. He was really wound up for some reason, and kept pestering the other passenger I had in the bus. So I called back to him, "Hey Nick! You want some music on?" "Yeah!" cried Nick. "What do you want to listen to?" I asked. "Country!" Bzzzt. "Nope, I don't like country," I said. "Pick something else." Nick whined. Loudly. "Awww... Come on!" "Give me another station," I said. Nick started listing non-existant stations. "Put on oh-oh-ten." "My radio doesn't have that. Try again." "How about eleven-twenty-six?" He finally named a real station, and I put it on. Now, I knew this station. In fact, it was pre-programmed into the radio, since I listen to it regularly. "Ha! Ha!" laughed Nick. "I tricked you!" I looked up in the mirror at him, a little puzzled. "How?" "This is country! I tricked you into putting on country!" The radio was playing Metallica's "Unforgiven." Baffled, I waited until the next song came on: White Zombie's "More Human That Human." Experimenting a little, I asked Nick, "What kind of music is this?" "Country," he replied. Ok. I switched the station to a soft rock station. Something by Madonna was playing. "Do you know who this singer is?" I asked. "Yeah, she's a good country singer," said Nick. It's all country to him. grin Ah well, at least I didn't have to listen to any real country music. It gives me a rash.
