she's actual size - home

Pay attention. There will be a quiz at the end of this entry.

I used to work late on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our last daytime route that needs a babysitter comes back to the garage around 10:45pm. We have two night mechanics who used to work Monday, Wednesday and Friday. So the nights they worked I could go home at 8pm.

But the Powers That Be wanted at least one mechanic there every night. Mechanic A wanted to keep working Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Mechanic B said he would work Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Mondays we would have two mechanics there, and at least one the other nights. All fine and good, right?

However... Mechanic A does not have a commercial driver's license (CDL), while Mechanic B does. The last bus that comes in requires a Class B license, and if there was a problem with it Mechanic A could not drive it. So the nights he is there alone, I have to stay late as well in case there is a problem.

So now I'm working late Wednesday and Friday.

Well, tonight we discovered a kink in our little plan. The board meets once a month on a Thursday night. One of the board members uses a wheelchair, and needs a lift home after the meeting (which I provide). The meeting is usually over around 9pm or so, but sometimes they argue until 10pm or later.

If I'm leaving at 8pm, how can I take him home at 9pm?

This week I agreed to stay until the meeting was over so I could take the board member home. I wasn't happy about it, but I knew there was no other way to handle it. My supervisor apologized all over herself.

I called my mom to ask when Min's birthday party would be. They were going to have it Friday evening. Hmph. I had to work until 11pm and there was no way I'd be able to go. I told my mom and she said she'd tell Min. (This was actually sort of a good thing - I don't have anything for her yet!)

My supervisor overheard this conversation, and decided to play Lets Make a Deal. She said she's listen on the radio in case there was a problem tomorrow night, so that I could go home at 8pm again if I would take the board member home tonight.

I agreed.

As it turned out, the meeting ended right at 8pm, and I was out of there around 8:30pm anyway. So I got two early nights for the price of one. Yippee! grin

The Quiz

No fair looking back!

  1. Which mechanic does not have a CDL: A or B?

  2. What class CDL does the last bus in require?

  3. What time do I leave work on three days of the week?

  4. If the last bus in travels at an average speed of 45 miles per hour, and leaves its last stop (which is 9 miles away) at 10:32pm, what time does it usually get back to the garage?

  5. What did I give Min for her birthday last year?

See? Easy. Click here for the answers.

______ of the Day

Today's cheer is: it's warm! It's sunny! The crocuses (croci?) are coming up. Of course, it'll snow again next week. Oh well.

Odd

All day it felt like there were peanuts shoved up my nose or something. I wanted to pick my nose really really bad. But I didn't, and the feeling went away on its own.
