she's actual size - home

I had a little chat with Jaws today.

ME: I just wanted to let you know how proud I am of you. I know that the recent litter box rearrangement was going to be rather tough on you, but you've been very mature about the whole situation.

JAWS: Mrrow. purrpurrpurr...

ME: I've noticed you've even started to discriminate between the two litter boxes. The box upstairs in the closet (next to the water heater) seems to be for "number one"... And the covered box downstairs next to my computer seems to be for "number two."

JAWS: Marrw!

ME: Oh yes, I've noticed. The odor that drifts from the covered box gets my attention quickly; I'm sure that box will stay pretty clean.

JAWS: purrpurrpurr...

ME: However, there have been some things I want to discuss with you.

JAWS: Mrrr?

ME: I've noticed you looking at the calendar a lot lately, and that you've circled next weekend with a bright red marker. I don't know how you figured out that I was going to set up the tree this weekend, but now that you know we might as well discuss it.

JAWS: [silence]

ME: Last year the four-foot tall "realistic" tree was pretty much out of your reach.

JAWS: Pffffft!

ME: I'm sorry! It was for the best. Due to my recent furniture rearrangement, though, I've limited the number of places where I can put the tree. As it stands right now, the best place is on the end table by the window.

JAWS: Rrrrrrrr...

ME: Yes. Your end table.

JAWS: Rrrrrrrrrrrrr...

ME: I know, I know. That is the table from which you survey your virtual territory outside the window. That's your butt rest when you lean on my shoulder when I'm watching TV. But you're going to have to adjust.

JAWS: Rrrrrrrrrow!

ME: You should also know that the penalty for messing with the ornaments is going to be rather severe. Eat an ornament, lose out on a treat. Period.

JAWS: [hissing]

ME: Ow! Get off my face!

JAWS: Phfffffffffffffffft!

ME: Yeeeeeoch! Get your claws out of my eyeballs!

I'd say the discussion went rather well.

Looking Up

The Mars Polar Lander is scheduled to land near Mars' southern polar cap Friday afternoon. I'm excited about this mission because not only will it search for water ice beneath the topsoil (an indication of Mars' past climate conditions), the lander also has a microphone. For the first time, we'll be able to hear the wind on another planet. This gives me goosebumps!

______ of the Day

Today's regret is agreeing to go into work early tomorrow.

Go Somewhere

Ozy and Millie is yet another online comic I read regularly. These kids are a lot like I am. I mean, how I was. Or something.
