I did some major cleaning today and possibly hurt myself in the process, but I can tell you about that tomorrow because... Taa daa! It's the new design I've been promising. You like? You no like? You no care? Let me know. And in honor of my new design I'm going to be terribly meta today, and talk about online journalling. Now, I've only been around this online journal thing for a few months. However, I think I'm starting to get the gist of things. I've heard a lot of whining cough I mean, discussion about awards and attention and all that. Listen up! If you're complaining because you've kept a journal for a year and never get hits and never won an award and never get mentioned by the Journal Cabal, stop and think. Why are you keeping an online journal? For attention? So you can post an award image on your page? Then maybe you're keeping a journal for the Wrong Reasons. If awards are what you're after, submit your page to one of those 12-year-olds who give out awards to anyone. You know, those awards where the criteria are "If you have a web page and the colors are pretty, you can get my ky00l award!" If you're after attention, make a page about Pokemon or the interesting things you do to your blow-up doll. Trust me, you'll get hits. I don't get many hits. But I'm not complaining, see? If people like what they read, they'll come back. If they don't like it... Well, I'm not writing for them. I'm writing for me. My journal is online so that I have motivation to write every day, not so that I can get awards or hundreds of hits a day or appear at the top of every search engine. Yes, I have submitted my page to search engines and registries and whatnot. Aha! you think. You do want hits! Hits are nice. I like feedback, and when people write to me I generally write them back, even if it's just a "thanks for visiting" note. But lots of hits are not what I'm aiming for. I'm trying to improve my writing. Hopefully I am. I've also heard a few people mention how nasty some journallers are. (For example, some people really don't like this page.) Get real. You want to talk about rancor? The most active newsgroup for the furry fandom is alt.fan.furry. That place is cutthroat. It has been nicknamed alt.flame.furry. Any group that needs a page like this can eat you alive. (Yes, it has calmed down in recent weeks, but it could flare up again at any moment.) I laugh at your petty quarrels! Mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ok. End of rant. Sorry about that. I was talking about my new design, wasn't I? I think this looks a bit cleaner than the previous one. Also, it's easier to tell where you've been and where you haven't. I have a feeling that the sidebar will go through many changes over time (as in what's included), but I think I'll stick with this design for a while. The downside (for me, anyway) is that I changed the look of the archives page. If you view the source of the archive pages, you'll see the little cheats I have in there. grin Oh well. Anyway. Enjoy.
