junk

Well, it happened. I went to the auction.

But I didn't buy anything! Yay for me!

It was pretty damn hard, though. They were selling these really nice lounge couches that were shaped like an "L" with a table where the two legs met for $1 apiece. One dollar! And nice desks for $3 apiece. And big tables for $5 apiece. And... good grief, lots of stuff.

Fortunetly I kept thinking, "Where would I put that?" I have too much furniture as it is. My apartment is pretty small, and I already have a nice couch and a table and a desk. And do I really need a card catalogue? No, not really.

I took my mom to the auction though, and she ended up buying a table. Better her than me. grin I know that there will be lots of stuff left on Monday, and the only thing I was really interested in getting was a computer. So Monday I'll take a stroll through the warehouse and slap my name on a nice monitor and CPU.

Or maybe not. I'll let you know.

It was amazing watching the auction. I've never been to one, and the sound of the auctioneer's voice was rather mesmerizing. "I got ten-lemme-hear-a-fifteen-fifteen-anybody-wanna-fifteen- fifteen-fifteen-twenty-five-I-gotta- getta-twenty-five-lemme-hear-a-quarter- quarter-twenty-five-twenty-five-any-any- thirty-thiry-hey-batta-batta-swing!" Or something like that.

And the crap that people were buying! I mean, honestly! I saw people carting off ancient cases for microfiche readers. Just the case. Who wants that? Or a desk with three legs. I saw a guy driving off with a display case in his truck. The case had a broken window and a huge dent in the top. I guess it's fixable, but still.

Even if it was junk... It was tempting. But I have too much junk already. One of my projects for this winter is to go through my apartment and mark stuff for a garage sale I'm planning next spring. Somehow, in the four years since I've moved out of my parents' house I have accumulated six peoples-worth of crap. And it has to go. Some of the stuff I'll just throw out. (I hope!) I still have notes from my Intro geology courses in college. Why? Because I might need them, right? Someday I'll be wondering about geysers, and instead of looking it up in a nicely indexed book I'll drag out my notes and page through them until I reach the once day that we talked about geysers.

Uh huh. Sure I will. And monkeys might fly out of my butt.
