AFAA Logo

The AFAA logo was a collaboration of its own Betsy Rosses in 1992. Regina de Jesus was only 12 when she drew the logo. The idea to include a star came from Tess Centeno. Gigi Hobson's input included adding the Texas Capitol building and the two flags.

The star represents Texas, the "Lone Star" state. The Philippine and the United States flags stand for the long-time friendship between the two countries. The Capitol represents Austin, capital of Texas and seat of its government. They year 1986 commemorates the year the Association was founded.

Austin Balita

The AFAA's newsletter is called Austin Balita. Tess Centeno came up with the name. Balita is the Filipino word for news.

First Miss Philippines of Central Texas

AFAA held the first Miss Philippines of Central Texas pageant in 1990. The pageant winner was Jessica Borge, daughter of Amado and Brenda Borge.

First Mrs. Philippines of Central Texas

AFAA held the first Mrs. Philippines of Central Texas in 1991. The winner was Mrs. Myrna Lorenzana of San Antonio.
